Island of Maui
MAUI - “BEST ISLAND IN THE WORLD” by Conde Nast Traveler

Maui, named after the demigod that drew the Hawaiian Islands up from the ocean, is the Valley Isle. Legend says that Maui captured the Sun and secured the promise of long days for the enjoyment of the people and visitors of these islands. Today it is said the Sun resides in the beautiful mountains of Haleakala known as the "House of the Sun". Maui is the second largest island in the Hawaiian chain providing miles and miles of diverse cultures, climates, and landscapes. From the black, white, red, and gold sand beaches to the pastoral village of Heavenly Hana to the soaring sea cliffs and seven sacred pools, Maui has something for everyone. It is no wonder that this sun-drenched island has been voted the "Best Island in the World".

AIRPORT & TRANSPORTATION:

Maui is served by many leading US airlines and international carriers. In many cases direct flights to Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG) are available. Many passengers first arrive at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) and then travel to Maui via an inter-island airline. For ease and convenience, participants should fly into OGG. Participants can then easily obtain shuttle or car rental and travel to the west side of Maui to Lahaina (see map above). The Sheraton is located on Kaanapali Beach in Lahaina, Maui. All major rental car companies can be found at Kahului Airport, and at select locations in resort areas. Taxis and buses are readily available, and many hotels offer shuttle services. Maui’s Kapalua Airport and Hana Airport are much smaller, and are served only by regional airlines and private charters. If you chose to fly into Kapalua Airport (JHM), check with it's website to make sure the airport is best suitable to your needs. Please be aware that hours are limited to daylight hours only (7am - 5pm). There is no public transportation, only taxi or using personal car. Also, there are no car rentals onsite. Most are located either just outside the airport or in town at Laihaina with some offering complimentary pickup. Reservations must be booked in advance.

Utilize discounted sights such as Kayak for flight and car rental bookings.
